Redtail Hawk - Santa Rosa, CA. "I don't not fly away often, but when I do, I look at you from my perch and think - Soy guapo, soy muuuy guapo."
A young male deer hiding in the grasses alongside the Sea Ranch Golf Course in northern Sonoma County, CA.
Sonoma Coast Call Lily
Springtime on Coast Highway 1, Sonoma County, CA
We used to have a Rottweiler living on our property and as a result never saw much animal life around - except gophers. The rotty left, the cats came in - wildcats!
We live near a creek and in the middle of winter when the water level is up there are probably 100 thousand frogs in the neighborhood - so loud! This tiny frog made a home in our warm laundry room and our son Cam creatively named the frog, "Cam". His eyeball is no bigger than a BB, entire body about the size of a half dollar.
With rich bokeh created by a dynamic backdrop and a crisply focused leaf in the foreground this fall photo makes for a nice mood setter.
Teton Bison Bull
It's not technically a buffalo, it's an American Bison. The term "buffalo" is sometimes considered to be a misnomer for this animal, as it is only distantly related to either of the two "true buffalo", the Asian water buffalo and the African buffalo.
There are a lot of fauna visiting my yard, here's one of the most sinister.
Coastal California's Western Grebe with its distinguishable red eye, olive hello beak, crew cut head and grey and black markings.
Bodega Bay, CA is home to a large and diverse species of shorebirds. With its swift and precise surf line scouring, the sandpiper is the ruler of the pack.

Bodega Bobcat Prowl
Hunting in the Watt's field behind my barn, this large bobcat was the biggest one I have even seen. Generally these guys are twice the size of a house-cat, this one was triple the size, easily.
Sonoma Coast, CA
The sunset light in Bodega is often very rich. Bodega is about 10 miles from the pacific coast and the sunset colors make dusk shooting extra fun. This hummingbird comes back almost every night to feed in our backyard during springtime.
Low Hanging Fruit
An adult bald eagle hangs her wing tips just above the surface of the Russian River in Jenner, CA.
Trade Wind Paddlers
The trade winds in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii are among the most intense anywhere in the world. This open ocean canoeist had no idea this whale breach was happening just behind him. This photo was taken from about a 1/2 mile away with a polarizer to cut the harsh glare.
Humpback Whale Breach
Huge Humpback Whale Breach, sunset behind lighting up the sea spray - seq. 1 of 5 - Launiupoko Beach Park, Lahaina, Maui, Hawaii
Honu in Flight, Needle Fish in Tote
"Honu in Flight, Needle Fish in Tote"
Shot in Paia, Maui - the locals call this spider a Banana Spider but the actual name is the Hawaiian garden spider, Argiope appensa.
Juvenile Elk River Crossing
This juvenile elk was trotting down my side of the bank on the Snake River in Grand Tetons NP, and startled us both. I was actually tracking a heard of elk who'd be trumpeting to each other all morning on the other side of the river when this young female wapiti startled us both.
Benziger Cabernet Grape
Macro shot of these extremely sweet orbs.
Taken at the Rose Gardens in Petaluma, CA during Jen and Aristotle's wedding. I used a GoPro Hero 2 with a fisheye housing to shoot this picture. In my wedding clothes, wife rolling her eyes about me not paying attention to the reception guests, I laid on the ground set the lens just above the waterline and waited for the flotilla to cruise by.
Soaring Red Tail Hawk
I love to intensity of this predator's expression, and power in its movement. Living in the country I am lucky to have animals like these hunting in the fields nearby. This healthy redtail started a turn just above my barn roof - creating this dynamic feel of movement.
Humpback Tail Slapping Lessons
Perfectly in unison, yet just slightly outside of the focal range of my lens, this mother and child splashed around together for many minutes, then this happened.
